How to Use Trimbow

Firstly, it’s important to read all of the Patient Information Leaflet provided with your inhaler carefully before you start using this medicine because it contains important information for you.

If you are in Great Britain, you can download the Patient Information Leaflet at this link. If you are in Northern Ireland, please use this link.

Trimbow should be taken as prescribed – 2 puffs, twice a day.

First use

When using a new inhaler, you should:

  • Write down the date you opened the pouch on the box label
  • Open the pouch and take out your inhaler
    • If your inhaler was not sealed, is damaged, broken or showing less than ‘120’ on the dose counter, please return it to the pharmacy where it was supplied and request a new one.1

Everyday use

To use your Trimbow inhaler, follow the 5 steps shown here. Don’t rush yourself, especially during steps 2 to 5.

  • Step 1

    OPEN

Open the cover fully with your inhaler in the upright position.

Note the number of doses left on the dose counter. Any number between “1” and “120” shows that there are doses left.

    Step 2

    INHALE

Whenever possible, stand or sit in an upright position when inhaling.

Before inhaling breathe out as far as is comfortable.

Do not breathe out through your inhaler.

Lift your inhaler up, bring it to your mouth and place your lips around the mouthpiece.

Do not cover the air vent when holding our inhaler and do not inhale through the air vent.

Take a forceful and deep breath through your mouth.

    • You may notice a taste when you take your dose.
    • You may hear or feel a click when the dose has been released from the device.
    • Do not inhale through your nose.
    • Do not remove your inhaler from your lips during the inhalation.

    Step 3

    EXHALE

Remove your inhaler from your mouth.

Hold your breath for 5 to 10 seconds or as long as is comfortable.

    Breathe out slowly.

    Step 4

    CLOSE

Close the cover fully with the inhaler in the upright position.

    Step 5

Check that the dose counter has gone down by 1. This will indicate that you have successfully inhaled a dose.

If you are not sure the dose counter has gone down by one after inhalation, wait until your next scheduled dose and take this as normal. Do not take an extra dose.

To take a second dose

Repeat steps 1 to 5. Do not repeat steps 2 to 5 too quickly.

After use

To lower the risk of a fungal infection in your mouth and throat, rinse your mouth or gargle with water, without swallowing, or brush your teeth each time after you use your inhaler.

Regular cleaning is normally not needed but you can clean it after use with a dry cloth or tissue, not with water or other liquids. It’s important to keep your inhaler dry.

Replacements and disposal

You should get a replacement when the dose counter shows ‘0’, as there are no doses left.

Medicines should not be disposed of via waste water or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Trimbow NEXThaler 88/5/9 for COPD

Your inhaler contains three medicines:

  • beclometasone: which belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids, which help to reduce the swelling and irritation in the lungs
  • formoterol: a long-acting beta-agonist
  • glycopyrronium: a long-acting muscarinic antagonist

Formoterol and glycopyrronium relax the muscles in the airways, helping to open them wider and allowing you to breathe more easily.

It is important that you know how to use your inhaler properly.

Your doctor, nurse or pharmacist will show you how to use your inhaler correctly.

You should follow their instructions carefully so that you know how, when and how many inhalations to inhale.

It is important that you use your preventer inhaler as prescribed, even if you feel well, as this will help control your COPD symptoms.

Your doctor, nurse or pharmacist will advise you on how your Trimbow NEXThaler should be taken in combination with other medication and provide you with an action plan to help you manage your respiratory symptoms.
